AlternaTIFF is a browser plug-in designed to allow the user to view TIFF image files contained on any webpage you visit. It comes in two shapes: an ActiveX control or a plugin for other browsers than Internet Explorer, such as Firefox, Opera or Google Chrome.
Once the application is installed on your computer, all common TIFFimages will be displayed within the browser. However, in order to make it work, you must go through a free registration process during the setup.
AlternaTIFF comes with a few advanced options that allow image manipulation inside the browser. It features full-screen zooming and panning functionality, as well as a so-called 'Best Fit' mode, which resizes the picture to fit the screen dimensions. Alternatively, images can be reduced or enlarged in size in order to match the window width or resized to a percentage of the original size.
With a single click, you can rotate the input image, apply it negative effects or navigate to the next or the previous page of the TIFF file. Also, it enables you to save the picture to disk (you can export images either in TIFF or BMP format, with suggested names) or send it to the clipboard and paste it into other image editing applications for further processing.
AlternaTIFF can also load locally stored images and send a picture as an e-mail attachment. It features options for viewing the internal structure of a TIFF file or use the currently loaded image as the desktop background.
For your convenience, AlternaTIFF's toolbar can be easily customized to display only the controls and functions you need. Technical information about an image is displayed in the 'About' section, which can be useful if your browser experiences problems in loading a particular image.
